My heart is heavy to learn that my dear friend and undergraduate mentor, Prof. Roy Gardner of Indiana University has passed away. Roy was an amazing professor, a dedicated advisor, and one of the finest people I’ve known in my life.
When I decided to be an econ major in college, Roy made it possible (I was short on credit hours to keep my scholarship, so he set up a last minute reading course with me and together we read everything from Smith to Marx to Galbraith). He advised my senior thesis on Hobbes (possibly one of the strangest senior thesis the department had seen), and even though he was a game theorist by trade, he always insisted that economics had a history worth reading, remembering, and critiquing.
I’ll miss you, Roy.
